The Iffigenalp Loop is rightly regarded as one of the most beautiful day hikes in the region. It takes us just over 20 minutes to get from the Lenk train station to Iffigenalp on a narrow mountain road in a crowded bus.

The hike begins easily on a wide path to the trailhead. We choose to hike the loop clockwise, taking the path to our right and starting the ascent through the forest. Once out of the forest, the most challenging part of the hike awaits us. For a few hundred meters, it is a steep climb through scree. After that, the climb to Iffighore is very pleasant. Along a stretch of around 200-300 meters, we can even admire numerous edelweiss. Alpine rhododendrons also adorn this stunning mountain landscape.

Once we reach the summit of Iffihore, we are rewarded with a beautiful 360° panoramic view of the mountain landscape. We can even spot the Eiger, Mönch, Blüemlisalphorn and Doldenhorn in the distance, while the Niesenhore and Wildhorn rise up in front of us. We descend to the beautiful and peaceful Iffigsee mountain lake, which illuminates the landscape with its turquoise hue. Here we take a short break and cool off by dipping our feet in the crystal-clear, chilly lake water.

From the lake, it is also possible to make a detour of around 1h30 (round trip) to the Wildhorn hut. On our side, we opt for a quicker return. From Iffigsee, it takes just over an hour to the starting point of the hike. At Iffigenalp, the restaurant’s lovely terrace invites to refresh yourself before taking the bus down to Lenk.
