After watching the sunrise over the Salar de Uyuni from the Incahuasi island, we make our way to the small village of Coqueza. Here begins the ascent of the Tunupa volcano to various viewpoints. We have our breakfast before driving along a bumpy natural road to the trailhead of the hike. Those planning to climb to the top of the volcano must be accompanied by a local mountain guide. For our hike to the Segundo Mirador, we are accompanied by our guide Vicente.

At the start of the hike, we briefly visit a cave where mummies dating from before the Incas can be seen. We then follow a steadily sloping trail at a leisurely pace adapted to the altitude. Beautiful mountain flora, which we had not expected, surrounds us in the lower part of the hike. We continue to climb and finally arrive at the Segundo Mirador viewpoint. Up there, we have a fantastic view of the colorful Tunupa volcano in front of us and of the dazzlingly white Salar de Uyuni behind us. We take our time and appreciate this unique panorama, take a few photos and enjoy a picnic before heading back to the trailhead.
