The Bald Hills hike is considered one of the most beautiful hikes in Jasper National Park. At the top, the view of Maligne Lake is exceptional. On our climb back in May 2019, the snow is however still too present, and we can only climb to the first viewpoint.

The trail starts at Maligne Lake and climbs through the forest. After about 2.5 kilometers, it is possible to stay on the old fire road, or to take a smaller, more direct and steeper trail through the forest. We are in the meantime on the way with three French hikers, we first try the small trail through the forest. However, we had to face the fact that the snow was too deep and decide to come back to the crossing to take the old fire road. Although we cannot reach the summit, we have a very pleasant view of Maligne Lake from the first viewpoint. An excellent alternative to get a general view of Maligne Lake and the surrounding mountains.
